- The object of the game is to build your overall networth to a level that is higher than anyone elses in the game. Players who excel at hitting and stealing are also recognised and accorded proper respect, even if their networth is not as high as the leading players. Your networth is determined by the material items you own (not the people), plus whatever cash you have. When you buy a material item it adds 80% of its purchase price to your networth.
- You increase your power by recruiting crewmembers to your gang. Using turns, you recruit prostitutes, hitmen, and dealers to your gang. Your prositutes and casino's (if you have any) will also earn you money during this time.
- Every criminal enterprise you engage in requires political influence. You get political influence by bribing politicians. You will know when you have enough influence for any given activity when the associated indicator on your stats page is smiling. If your indicators are not smiling it simply means you are unable to purchase more of that item until you build up more influence, but you can still use what you already own. Prostitution is an exception to this rule, if you do not have enough influece for prostitution some of your prostitutes could get busted and removed from your stable.
- As your cash and political influence grows you can buy casinos and traffic in narcotics, thus increasing the amount of money you make per turn. Casinos are reusable and stay with you until you sell them or they are destroyed by an enemy. Narcotics are sold quickly but have a huge profit margin. Casinos cost $1,000,000 each and the influence of approximately 13 politicians per casino. Narcotics must first be purchased from the drug cartel and then sold on the street at a profit.
- Your combat strength is guaged by how many and what kind of weapons you have in relation to the number of hitmen you have. This is reflected in an indicator on your stats page called "Potency". There are three levels of potency, "Low" (meaning you will probably lose every battle even if your opponent has less men), "Medium" (meaning you will probably only win the battle if you have alot more men than your opponent and his potency is no higher than yours), and "High" (meaning your men are fighting at their top proficiency and you will have a very high chance of victory facing a weaker opponent). You increase your potency by buying more and better weapons, the more powerful weapons are also the more expensive of course.
- You also must pay your crew and grease your politicians for their services. They are paid a percentage of the proceeds you make each turn. You determine this percentage from your stats page using the "Crew Payout" button. The "Pay Satisfaction" indicator on your stats page will tell you how happy your crew is with their cut. When you set the crews payout to a low percentage you will make more cash per turn BUT your crew will be very dissatisfied with their pay and you run the risk of them quitting. The risk of them quitting and the number of them who quit will be proportionate to how low of a percentage you were paying them. The ideal percentage is 50%, none of your crew will quit at 50% payout, but the lower you go from the ideal of 50%, the higher the risk of losing crewmembers becomes.
How to Play
The course of game play is very simple. First you build some cash (recruiting your crew etc). Then you buy off some politicians. Then you supply your crew and expand on your money making activities. Then you buy off more politicians etc etc. The politicians provide you with a certain amount of 'influence' so that you can expand on your illegal activities. There are indicators on your stats page that tell you when you have enough political influence to expand on a certain enterprise. If these indicators say your influence is insufficient then you will need to buy off more politicans before you will be able to expand on that enterprise.
